Most VW Golf II and Jetta II left the factory without a standard cabin/pollen filter, equipped only with a leaf protection grille (191 819 098A).

Higher-end models like the GTI or G60 sometimes had it ex works, but for many vehicles, retrofitting was hardly feasible for a long time.
